Navigating the Kansas Mesonet Webpage (7/14/15)

Greetings Kansas Mesonet visitors! First and foremost, a huge thanks for visiting! We have been growing rapidly thanks to the wonderful feedback and interest. We hope to continue that in the future! With the increased interest, we have been getting many questions about where things are on the webpage. Therefore, we created this site map and some helpful navigation hints to make finding resources easier.

On the homepage, you can click each station on the map and obtain detailed current observations on the left side column. You can also toggle the map between Temperature, 24 Hour Precipitation (updated every 5 minutes), or Wind Speed/Direction at the top. Also on the main page you can get a detailed National Weather Service forecast for each location underneath the observations.


Most importantly, in the top left of the home page, three stacked bars represent a menu (see below image). Clicking this will provide several options that are highlighted below with each sub-menu.

On clicking the menu, the options and sub-menus are as follows:



Mesonet



Weather

  • Historical Weather - download past weather data (hourly/daily) and export as CSV for your desired time period. Note, hourly data is limited to 31 days and daily data to 365 days. Some data pre-2013 may not be online yet. If you can't find what you are looking for, please email us.
  • Weekly Summary - provides a weekly data summary for historical KSRE stations.
  • Weekly Soil Temperature - weekly soil temperature averages, maximums, and minimums by division. Change division in the top left, below the menu button.
  • Yesterday's Weather - quick glance at the temperature max/min, precipitation, and wind speed average/max for the previous day.
  • Degree Days - accumulated cooling/heating degree units starting the first of the year by division Change division in the top left, below the menu button.

Agriculture

  • Growing Degrees - a comparison to current growing degree days from April 1st compared to normal, seperated by division.
  • Check back occasionally for more options as we develop additional tools!

About

  • Overview - a generalized overview of the network including site selection and maintenance.
  • Network Architecture - a more descriptive look at data quality and instrumentation configurations.
  • Weather Parameters - legend/description of the data provided throughout the webpage.
  • Evapotranspiration - an educational description on evapotranspiration (ET).
  • Staff - list of people involved at the Mesonet.
